Lime based Venetian plaster and Marmorino for Armagh homes, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators over a planned block of days.
Venetian plastering in Armagh is available through Zavoré, a Venetian plaster supplier and installer based in Birmingham. Our own applicators travel to Northern Ireland to lay lime based plaster, Marmorino, limewash, polished plaster and other finishes. Order a sample board to see the colours, or email photos of the rooms and the postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.
We schedule Armagh work in a block of days, so the applicators can stay put and complete each layer before the next. You will have a date once the sample and the price are agreed.
Armagh is one of the oldest ecclesiastical centres in Ireland, with two cathedrals dedicated to St Patrick on opposite hills. Its Georgian character comes largely from the eighteenth century, when streets and public buildings were laid out with great care. The Mall, with its cricket ground and Georgian terraces, and the Observatory on its hill are good examples.
Around the Mall and the older streets there are Georgian townhouses of local stone and brick, along with Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas. Further out lie twentieth century housing and newer estates. The countryside around the city, long associated with apple orchards, has farmhouses, bungalows and cottages.
A Georgian room has high ceilings, proportion and often original plasterwork, which calls for a careful lime based finish. Many such buildings are listed, so ask the planning authority about consent before you begin. Newer homes are easier to prepare, but plasterboard still needs jointing and priming, and polished finishes need the walls flat.
Send us photos first, and we will survey the walls before pricing them. Substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement all matter, and so does how the room is used. If anything needs skimming, stripping or repair before the finish, we say so plainly.
When you have signed off the sample and price, your block of days is agreed. The plaster is tinted to the sample before leaving Birmingham, from 48 house colours or any NCS reference. Each coat needs time to dry, so please have other trades finished. Look through our installation page for the finishes, or every area we cover.
Architects and conservation minded owners can read our specification page. A decorator who would rather apply the finish can order tinted material from us, and our courses in Birmingham teach the technique. Our article on Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian coving is a useful read for period rooms.
Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham, and each job is planned as a block of days. We agree dates once the sample and price are signed off.
A lime based finish such as Marmorino suits Georgian rooms, because it breathes and has a soft sheen. Original cornices can be kept or restored alongside it.
Listed buildings have their own rules, and it depends on what is being changed. Check with the planning authority before work is booked.
