Seamless floors, walls and bathrooms with no grout lines, laid over Kent timber floors, new screeds and old tiles once the base is ready.
Microcement in Kent is a thin, seamless surface trowelled over floors, walls and bathrooms with no grout lines. Zavoré installs it with our own applicators, who travel from Birmingham, and we sell the lime built seamless finishes, pastellone and beton stucco, with primer, wax and sealer for those who use their own decorator. It suits the open plan extensions, barn conversion floors and bathrooms of the county, as long as the base is right. Start with a sample board.
A seamless floor is only as good as what lies under it, so the question is always the base. Kent has a long list of buildings with a different one each.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces in the county and seaside towns usually have suspended timber ground floors. Timber that flexes will crack a rigid surface however good the material, so it is stiffened and boarded first. Rear extensions and kitchen conversions are the opposite, with a new screed that must be dry all the way through, not just on top. Barn and oast conversions often have large new floors laid over old footings, and the movement joints in the structure have to be carried through the finish, not covered over.
New build estates and apartments, particularly along the Thames and Medway and around the larger towns, have a flat modern base, plus the bathrooms where people want to lose the tiles. Tiles can often be overlaid if they are firmly stuck, degreased and keyed, with drummy ones lifted first.
Be wary of treating microcement as a cheap way out of tiling. The preparation is where the work goes, and skipping it is how these floors fail.
Our microcement finishes suit these places.
Hand laid microcement carries gentle movement, and that is part of its character. If you want one dead uniform grey, a sheet product is the better answer. And avoid it on walls that will take heavy fixings, which should be planned before the finish goes on.
We survey the floors and walls first, checking the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement and the way the room is used. We say plainly if a floor needs stiffening or a screed needs longer to dry. The sample board lets you see the colour and texture dry. Material is tinted before it leaves Birmingham.
A seamless floor is laid wet in one go, so access, protection and the order of trades matter. Kent is well beyond a daily trip from Birmingham, so the work is planned in blocks of days, with the team staying on the job. Dates are agreed once the sample and price are signed off. See the microcement installation page for the steps.
If your builder or decorator is doing the work, the shop sells pastellone for seamless floors and walls, beton stucco for the concrete look on walls, bonding primer, wax and sealer, all tinted and sent by tracked UK delivery. Be clear about what it is. These are lime built equivalents rather than a cement coating. Tadelakt remains the traditional answer for a wet room. Decorators can ask about a trade account.
For wet rooms with a hand burnished look, see tadelakt in Kent. For walls, concrete effect plaster in Kent gives the cloudy grey and marmorino in Kent the stone grain. Older rooms suit limewash in Kent, clay plaster in Kent and polished plaster in Kent, and liquid metal in Kent suits one bold wall. Everything we install is gathered in decorative specialists in Kent, with the classic in Venetian plastering in Kent.
Often, yes. The tiles must be firmly stuck, degreased and keyed, drummy ones lifted and made good, and the grout lines filled and reinforced. We check on a survey, and if the tiles are loose or the floor moves, they come up instead.
Only once the floor is stiffened and boarded, because a springy timber floor will crack a rigid surface. We say honestly if a floor is not ready.
Yes, once the screed is dry all the way through, not just on top. Cold, damp conditions slow drying, so a new extension may need longer than you expect.
We sell the lime built seamless finishes, pastellone and beton stucco, with primer, wax and sealer, by tracked delivery. They are not a cement coating, and we are clear about that. Our own team installs microcement.
