Metallic lime plaster and pearl glaze, trowelled onto a single wall where firelight, sea light or an uplighter can play across it.
Liquid metal in Kent is a polished lime plaster or pearl glaze carrying mica and metal toned pigment, trowelled onto one wall so it reads as brushed bronze, pewter or gold. Zavoré supplies and installs it, and our own team travels from Birmingham to lay it. It suits the inglenooks, bar fronts and event spaces of the county, used on one wall with restraint. Order a sample board and look at it in the room, morning and evening.
Metallics want light that moves, and Kent has some good places for it. Older farmhouses and cottages have wide open fireplaces and inglenooks, a chimney breast catching firelight is exactly where a metallic wall earns its place. The barns and oasts turned into homes and event spaces have tall walls that take uplighters, and the county's vineyards, pubs and seafront restaurants and bars have bar fronts and reception desks that need something to draw the eye.
Coastal towns bring big sash windows and wide skies, and the light changes across the day in a way that metallic plaster picks up. A wall near a window, or one washed by an uplighter, does something different all day. In flat, even light it just looks like a shiny colour.
Be clear about what the product is. We lay metallic plaster and pearl glaze, with mica and mineral pigment in lime. Cold cast metal, real bronze or brass powder in resin, sprayed and patinated, is a separate trade that we do not supply. If someone has specified genuine cast metal, tell us early.
Our liquid metal finishes suit surfaces people come at from the side.
Skip metallics on long hallway walls and stairwells, where shoulders and bags mark the sheen, and behind a hob, where heat and grease sit on it. Skip them for walls you will later want to repair invisibly, as metallic plaster cannot be patched without the patch showing. One wall is almost always enough. A whole room of metal stops being a finish and starts being a fairground.
We survey first, because metallics are unforgiving about the wall behind them. Every hollow reads as a dark patch and every proud edge as a bright one, so the background is made flat and primed before anything metallic goes near it. Photos often answer small questions first.
The sample board shows your colour and finish in your light, and material is tinted before it leaves Birmingham. The wall goes on in one go by one pair of hands, with the strokes in one direction, since a join left overnight shows for good. Kent is well beyond a daily trip from Birmingham, so the work is planned in blocks of days. See the metallic finishes installation page for more.
There are two routes. One is a plaster already metallic, laid as the finish so the depth goes all the way down. The other is a plain tinted base with a pearl or metallic wax brought over the top and burnished in, which gives more control. We help you choose on the sample. Wax or sealer finishes the wall, and day to day it needs a soft dry cloth, nothing abrasive.
If your own plasterer is doing the work, the shop sells metallic plaster, pearl and metallic wax with tracked UK delivery. If you have laid polished plaster before, a metallic is the same trowel work with less forgiveness, so a beginner should not start here. Trade customers can ask about a trade account.
A metallic wall reads well against quiet neighbours such as limewash in Kent, clay plaster in Kent or marmorino in Kent. For a mirror finish see polished plaster in Kent. Cool backdrops come from concrete effect plaster in Kent, and wet rooms need tadelakt in Kent or microcement in Kent. See decorative specialists in Kent for the full range and Venetian plastering in Kent for the classic.
Often, yes, because the side on light and firelight bring a metallic to life. We check the wall is flat and sound, and keep the finish away from direct heat and grease.
No. Metallic paint is pigment in a film, rolled on. Metallic plaster is mineral, trowelled in coats, with mica through the material, so it moves with the light and has depth.
No. Cold cast metal is a separate trade that we do not supply. We lay metallic lime plaster and pearl glaze, which reads as brushed metal in movement and light.
