Venetian plastering training for Wales is delivered at the Zavoré Academy in Birmingham, because that is the only place the courses run. Welsh students make the trip across the border, spend a few days at the bench and return with a craft they can sell.
If you are a decorator, a plasterer, a builder, a designer, a hotel or holiday let owner, or someone planning a change of direction, the courses are open to you without any need for a trade background.
Wales has a very mixed set of buildings, from stone farmhouses and slate roofed cottages to Victorian terraces, castle towns and modern apartment blocks. Many of the older buildings have thick, solid walls that behave differently from a modern plasterboard room, and that matters when choosing a finish.
Lime based plasters such as Marmorino are comfortable on old walls because they let moisture pass through. For smooth modern walls in city flats and new homes, polished plaster gives a clean, deep sheen. In wet areas, tadelakt and microcement are the usual materials. Between them, they cover almost every type of Welsh property.
Tourism is a major part of the Welsh economy, with hotels, inns, guest houses, restaurants and holiday cottages from the coast to the mountains. Owners compete on atmosphere, and a hand finished wall makes a stronger first impression than flat paint. Cities such as Cardiff and Swansea add apartments, offices and hospitality, while rural counties supply country houses and barn conversions.
A Welsh decorator with this skill can serve the visitor economy, the renovation market and new developments at the same time, all from one home base.
Courses run from 10am to 5pm at the Academy and are limited to six students.
The Beginner Course teaches theory, preparation, base coats, textures and the main finishes. For more depth, the Advanced Course covers stencil work, sanding, polishing to a high gloss and tinting. Those who need something specific, such as liquid metal or artificial rock, can choose 1 to 1 Training.

Students arrive by train or by car. Birmingham is central in England, so it works as a single meeting place for students from every part of the UK.
Treat the course as a stay of three or four days. Zavoré has a partner rate at a hotel near the Academy, so mention Zavoré when you book a room. Pickup from an airport or station can be arranged with your booking, priced by where you arrive.
Everything you work with is supplied, along with lunch and refreshments.
Your finished panels come home with you, and your Zavoré certificate and portfolio help to show customers what you can do. Trade pricing on Zavoré materials is available after the course, and the private course group offers a helpline for life.
Advanced students are helped to find, price and win a first paid decorative job. A Welsh decorator adding this service can approach hotels, homeowners and developers with a premium finish to offer.
For finished walls without the training, our page on Venetian plastering in Wales explains the installation service. The shop sends materials with tracked UK delivery.
