A media wall is a built out wall that holds the television, often with an electric fire, shelves and hidden cables. Most are built from timber or metal studs and plasterboard, then painted. Finishing one in Venetian plaster turns it into the centrepiece of the room. This guide covers how to plan a Venetian plaster media wall, which finishes suit it, and the details that stop it cracking.
Tape and fill every joint, set and fill the screw heads, sand smooth and prime. Board joints are the most likely place for a hairline crack to appear, so reinforce them properly. Our guide to Venetian plaster on plasterboard covers this in detail.
Darker colours make the television screen blend in when it is switched off, which many people like on a media wall. Warm neutrals suit rooms with timber and soft furnishings. Always approve a sample first. See our colour library.
Yes. Media walls are usually plasterboard, which takes Venetian plaster well once joints are filled and the board is primed.
Not if the frame is rigid and the board joints are reinforced. Cracks almost always follow movement in the wall behind.
