Lime Venetian plaster, limewash and clay plaster across Northumberland, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Northumberland for castles and country houses, market town terraces, coastal cottages and new homes. We are based in Birmingham, and our own applicators travel north to install authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster and other decorative finishes. To begin, order a sample board or send photos and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Northumberland is a large, mostly rural county, and the right finish changes a great deal from one village to the next.
The county runs from the Tyne valley in the south to the Scottish border in the north, with a long coastline to the east. Alnwick, Morpeth and Berwick upon Tweed are market towns with handsome stone and brick buildings, including Georgian streets, and at Berwick the Elizabethan town walls survive. Hexham, in the Tyne valley, is another stone built market town and has its own page.
Out in the countryside the typical home is a stone farmhouse, a row of estate cottages or a barn converted into a house. Coastal villages such as Alnmouth, Craster and Bamburgh have stone and rendered cottages that face salty weather, while Bamburgh and Alnwick are overlooked by their castles.
The south east of the county is different again. Towns such as Blyth and Ashington grew with coal mining, and Cramlington was built as a new town, so there are rows of older terraces alongside large newer estates where plasterboard and block walls are common.
Stone and old plaster walls are thick and can hold moisture, so we choose breathable lime finishes for them. Newer homes can take a harder, smoother finish.
Please send photos, approximate measurements and the postcode, and describe access, especially for a rural property. We survey the walls for substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement and protection, and we say clearly if skimming, stripping or a damp repair has to come first.
Once a sample and the price are approved, we agree your dates. The plaster is tinted to the colour on that sample in Birmingham before it leaves. With a county this far from our base, jobs are planned in blocks of days, so the applicators stay put and complete each coat in order.
Large and remote properties need good planning for deliveries, skips, heating and drying. Coastal and upland houses can be cold, and cold, damp rooms slow drying. Our installation overview sets out what we install.
If your own builder is doing the work, we can supply tinted material by tracked delivery. Designers and architects can read our specifier page and see the 48 house colours. For a longer read on older walls, try our guide to clay and lime plaster. You can also browse every area we cover.

Limewash, clay plaster or Marmorino, because they are breathable and suit thick stone walls. We survey for damp first and tell you if anything needs repair.
Yes, inside the house. Coastal cottages can be damp, so we survey the walls and say plainly if the damp has to be dealt with before a decorative finish.
Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it tracked, along with base coats and wax.
