Lime Venetian plaster, limewash and clay plaster for Hexham stone houses and barn conversions, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in Hexham for stone built town houses, country homes, barn conversions and shops. We are based in Birmingham, our own applicators travel up to the Tyne valley, and we supply and install authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster and other decorative finishes. A sample board is the easiest first step, or email photos of your rooms to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Hexham is a small market town in a big landscape, and the buildings here are often old, thick walled and full of character.
The town grew around Hexham Abbey, and the streets close to it, including the Market Place with the Moot Hall and the Old Gaol, are built mainly of local sandstone. Georgian and Victorian town houses, shops and terraces stand around the centre, and parts of the town are a conservation area, so some buildings are listed and need extra care.
Beyond the town, Tynedale has stone farmhouses, cottages and the barns and outbuildings that are regularly converted into homes. Nearby villages such as Corbridge share the same stone character. On the edges of Hexham there are also postwar and recent estates with brick or block walls and plasterboard finishes.
Stone walls are thick and can hold moisture, so the choice of plaster matters. A breathable lime finish allows a solid wall to dry out, where an acrylic coating forms a film over the top.
Barn conversions often have large open walls with newly built blockwork and plasterboard, and these can take polished plaster once the surface has been properly flattened.
Begin with photos, rough measurements and the postcode, and for a rural property tell us about the lane and the parking. We survey the walls to see what they are made of, how flat and sound they are, and whether there is damp or movement. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp fault fixing first, you will hear it straight away.
Your approved sample is the reference for the colour, and the plaster is tinted to it in Birmingham before it travels. Because Hexham is a long way from our base, the work is planned in blocks of days, so the applicators stay close and lay each coat in order. Dates are agreed once the sample and price are signed off.
Winters in the valley can be cold, and cold, damp rooms dry slowly, so a heated, aired room matters. Our installation page explains the stages for each finish.
