Where Artistry Begins
Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and polished plaster for Ipswich homes, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré supplies and installs Venetian plastering in Ipswich for houses, flats and commercial interiors. We use authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, Marmorino, limewash, polished plaster and other decorative finishes. We are based in Birmingham, and our own applicators travel to Ipswich to install. A sample board is the easiest place to start, or you can email photos of your walls and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Ipswich is a very old port town with plenty of newer building around it, so we think of it in layers.
The oldest layer is Tudor and medieval. In the town centre the Ancient House on the Buttermarket, with its decorated plasterwork, is one of the best known buildings, and Christchurch Mansion in Christchurch Park is a Tudor house that is now a museum. Around them are timber framed buildings, some behind later brick fronts, with low ceilings, old lime plaster and walls that have moved over centuries.
The Victorian layer is the largest. The streets around Christchurch Park, including Fonnereau Road and Park Road, have big Victorian and Edwardian villas, while the terraces of Norwich Road, Woodbridge Road and the streets behind them house many families in solid brick rooms. Interwar and postwar estates fill the rest of the town, including the Chantry.
The newest layer is on the Waterfront. The old wet dock has been turned into a marina, with the University of Suffolk beside it and new apartments, offices and restaurants around the quays. These are mostly built with modern board and block walls, ready for a flat finish.
Each of these asks for something different, so a survey comes before any advice.
For a bathroom, choose tadelakt or microcement on a waterproofed wall, not Venetian plaster in the shower.
We start with photos, then survey the walls. We check the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement, how the room is used, and access and protection. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem sorting first, we say so plainly.
After you approve a sample and the price, we agree dates. The plaster is tinted to the approved sample before it leaves Birmingham, from 48 house colours or any NCS reference. Ipswich is a long way from Birmingham, so larger jobs are planned in blocks of days. The team stays on site and lays each coat in order.
Tell us early about parking on narrow Victorian streets and, for Waterfront flats, any lift or building management rules. Our Venetian plaster installation page lists the finishes we lay.
The Waterfront and the town centre have seen a lot of redevelopment, and we work with designers and architects who specify feature walls and lobbies. See the specify page. If you have your own decorator we can send tinted plaster tracked across the UK, and our courses in Birmingham teach the technique.
