Zavoré carries out Venetian plastering in Guildford for houses, cottages, apartments and commercial interiors. The heart of Guildford is the steep, cobbled High Street, with the Guildhall clock hanging over it, the Norman castle keep above the town and the River Wey below. The older streets around it mix timber framed buildings, Georgian brick and Victorian shopfronts, and many sit inside conservation areas.
Beyond the centre the housing tells a long story. There are Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas within walking distance of the station, the interwar garden suburb of Onslow Village, and twentieth century family streets in places such as Merrow and Burpham. On the hills south and east of town, larger detached houses look out over the Surrey Hills, and the villages around them have cottages built from local Bargate stone, often with tile hung upper floors.

Put together, that is a wide spread of walls, from soft old stone and solid brick that need to breathe to modern plasterboard that needs careful preparation. Begin by emailing photos, rough measurements and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk. Simple questions can often be settled at that stage. For an installation, we then survey the rooms in person and note the substrate, flatness, cracks, signs of damp or movement, how the room is used, and what access and protection the job will need. Where a wall must be skimmed, stripped or dried out first, we say so clearly.
After you sign off a sample and a price, we fix the dates together. Your colour is mixed into the plaster in Birmingham before it travels, so there is no guesswork on site. Please have any plastering, wiring and carpentry done and dry before we arrive, and keep the heating gently on, as cold rooms slow the drying between coats. On the High Street and in the older town centre lanes, parking and loading are tight, so let us know early about permits or restricted access.
Some homeowners prefer to hire their own decorator. We can tint Venetian plaster, primers and wax to your sample and send them by tracked delivery. Yes. Our applicators travel from Birmingham and stay for a planned run of days, so the coats are laid in sequence without long gaps.
An old stone wall should be able to breathe, so a lime finish such as Marmorino or limewash is the natural choice. We would check for damp before anything goes on.
Yes. In a rental we tend to suggest a finish that is hard wearing and easy to repair, and we will tell you which one when we know the room.
Yes. Inside a shower we recommend microcement or tadelakt on a properly prepared, waterproofed wall rather than Venetian plaster.
