Venetian plastering in Gloucestershire

Lime Venetian plaster and decorative finishes, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and installed across Gloucestershire by our own applicators.

Zavoré supplies and installs Venetian plastering in Gloucestershire, from Regency villas in Cheltenham to stone cottages in the Cotswolds and mill buildings in the Stroud valleys. We are based in Birmingham, our own applicators travel to lay every coat, and each colour is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves us. Order a sample board or email photos and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk to begin.

Gloucestershire runs from the Cotswold edge down to the Severn and across to the Forest of Dean, so the right plan depends on where the house is. On jobs further from Birmingham we work in blocks of days and the team stays to lay each coat in order. Dates follow the signed off sample and price.

One county, several kinds of house

Cheltenham is the county's Regency spa town, with stuccoed terraces, villas and crescents in areas such as Montpellier and Pittville, and ironwork balconies on many fronts. Tall rooms, plaster cornices and generous sash windows are typical, and a polished or Marmorino wall suits the proportions. Gloucester has its cathedral, its restored Victorian docks and warehouses, and brick terraces beyond the centre.

The Cotswold side of the county is stone country. Cirencester, Tetbury, Painswick and the villages around them are built from honey coloured limestone, with thick solid walls that need to breathe. Stroud and its valleys have old cloth mills and weavers' cottages, some now converted to homes and workplaces. Tewkesbury keeps medieval timber framed buildings beside its abbey, and the Forest of Dean has stone and brick cottages and village houses of its own.

Alongside all that, Gloucestershire has plenty of recent building, including new housing estates and apartments, where plasterboard walls need reinforced joints and the right primer. The finish, and the preparation, change with every one of these house types.

Finishes that suit Gloucestershire homes

  • Marmorino for Cheltenham's Regency rooms and Cotswold drawing rooms alike. It is lime based, so it works with solid older walls.
  • Polished plaster for new apartments and flat plasterboard walls, where its depth makes an open plan space feel finished.
  • Limewash for stone cottages and mill conversions where you want colour and texture without a shine.
  • Concrete effect for converted warehouses and mills, where an industrial wall suits exposed brick and beams.
  • Tadelakt for bathrooms, since we do not recommend Venetian plaster inside a shower.

How a job in Gloucestershire is planned

Photos and rough measurements start the conversation. We can often answer small questions from them, such as whether an old wall is likely to need stripping or skimming. A survey follows before any price for installation, covering substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement and access.

Once you have approved the sample and price, your plaster is tinted in Birmingham. Each coat is thin and needs to dry before the next, so the room should be clear of other trades, and cold, damp stone rooms need gentle heat. Town centre streets in places like Cheltenham and Gloucester can have restricted parking, and country houses may sit down narrow lanes, so mention access early.

The services we cover are listed under installations. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with the council about what you may alter before planning work to the building itself.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Gloucestershire

Do you cover all of Gloucestershire for Venetian plastering?

We install across the county, from Cheltenham and Gloucester to the Cotswolds, Stroud and the Forest of Dean. Our applicators travel from Birmingham.

Which finish suits a Regency house in Cheltenham?

Marmorino or polished plaster, depending on the wall. Marmorino is lime based and breathes with older walls, while polished plaster needs flat, sound surfaces.

Can you plaster a converted mill in the Stroud valleys?

Yes. Thick old walls often suit limewash or Marmorino, and concrete effect finishes can work well on a more industrial conversion. We survey before pricing.

Can I order Venetian plaster for a Gloucestershire decorator?

Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it tracked, with base coats and wax.
