Venetian plastering in Gateshead

Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and polished plaster, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid on Gateshead walls by our own applicators.

Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Gateshead for Victorian terraces, Tyneside flats, family semis, quayside apartments and commercial spaces. We are based in Birmingham, our own applicators travel to Gateshead to lay each finish, and the plaster is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves us. To start, order a sample board, or email photos of your walls with the postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.

Gateshead is a long way north of our Birmingham base, so we plan jobs in blocks of days. The team stays through the job and lays each coat in order.

The homes and buildings we plaster in Gateshead

Gateshead sits on the south bank of the Tyne, facing Newcastle across the river, and its character comes from heavy industry and, more recently, culture. On the Quays, the Baltic, a former flour mill now an art gallery, and the curved glass and steel of the Sage stand beside the Millennium Bridge. Modern apartments and offices have grown up around them. To the south, Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North stands over the main road.

The older housing was built for workers. Bensham, Teams, Felling and Pelaw have long rows of Tyneside flats, two storey terraced buildings divided into an upper and a lower home with separate front doors. Low Fell and Bensham also have larger Victorian houses on higher ground, and Saltwell Park, with its Victorian Gothic towers, sits among them.

Further out, Whickham, Ryton and Birtley have a mix of village centres and large modern estates, and the Team Valley and the MetroCentre at Dunston bring industrial and retail buildings.

What that means for plaster is simple. Old terraces have solid walls that need to breathe. Interwar and postwar semis may have been replastered many times. New builds are plasterboard. We survey the wall before we choose the finish.

Finishes that suit Gateshead homes

  • Limewash for Tyneside flats and cottages, which have solid walls and benefit from a surface that breathes.
  • Marmorino for the larger Victorian rooms of Low Fell and Bensham, with a lime sheen that suits high ceilings.
  • Polished plaster for Quays apartments and new builds, where flat walls give a clean, reflective finish.
  • Concrete effect for offices, bars and loft style rooms that echo the industrial buildings around them.

For a shower room, we would use microcement or tadelakt rather than Venetian plaster, and we will explain why when we survey.

How a Venetian plastering job in Gateshead runs

We begin with photos and then survey. The substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement, how the room is used, access and protection all go into the price. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem fixing first, we tell you plainly.

Once you approve a sample and the price, we agree dates. Your plaster is tinted to the approved sample in Birmingham, with 48 house colours or any NCS reference to choose from. Coats are thin with drying time between, so keep the heating on gently in a cold room, and finish electrics and joinery first.

Flats often share stairs and doors, and terraces may have on street parking only, so tell us early about access. Everything we lay is described on our Venetian plaster installation page, and you can see every area we cover. Across the river, our Newcastle page covers the other bank.

Materials, trade accounts and training

If you already have a decorator, we can send tinted plaster, base coats and wax by tracked delivery. Decorators who want to learn the craft can book a Birmingham course, and trade accounts help with repeat orders. Our guide to plasterboard walls is handy for new builds.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Gateshead

Do you travel to Gateshead for Venetian plastering?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham and the job is planned in blocks of days. Dates are agreed once the sample and price are signed off.

What suits a Victorian terrace in Bensham?

Solid old walls do best with a breathable lime finish such as Marmorino or limewash. An acrylic film can hold moisture inside the wall.

Can you plaster a new apartment on the Gateshead Quays?

Yes. Flat plasterboard walls suit polished plaster once the joints are reinforced and the right primer is on. We also check building access rules.

Can I buy the plaster for my own decorator?

Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it tracked, with base coats and wax.
