Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and limewash, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and installed across Dorset by our own applicators.
Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in Dorset for thatched cottages, Georgian townhouses, seaside villas and modern coastal homes. We are based in Birmingham, our own applicators travel to Dorset to lay every coat, and your colour is tinted before it leaves us. The simplest way to begin is a sample board, or photos of the walls and your postcode emailed to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Dorset jobs are planned in blocks of days. The team stays near the work and lays each coat in order, rather than driving back to Birmingham in between, and the dates are agreed once the sample and price are signed off.
Dorset's character comes from its stone and its coast. Purbeck and Portland stone are quarried here, and honey toned stone builds the abbey town of Sherborne. Shaftesbury sits on its hill above the Blackmore Vale, and is known for the steep cobbled Gold Hill. Blandford Forum was rebuilt in the Georgian style after a great fire, and Dorchester, the county town, keeps Georgian and Victorian streets and the Thomas Hardy connection.
On the coast, Weymouth has a harbour and a seafront of Georgian terraces, while Lyme Regis lies on the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site. Poole has its large natural harbour, and Bournemouth grew in the Victorian era as a resort, with villas under the pines and later blocks of flats along the cliffs. Many seafront buildings face salt air and weather, and that shapes what we advise.
Inland the villages are full of thatched cottages with cob or stone walls, as well as farmhouses and converted barns. At the other end of the scale, Poundbury, on the edge of Dorchester, is a recent traditional style development, and the county has many newly built homes where plasterboard walls need reinforced joints and the right primer.
You send photos, rough measurements and the postcode. That often settles small questions, and then we survey the walls for substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement. Thatched and cob houses, and homes close to the sea, can run damp, so we say plainly if something needs repair before any decorative coat.
After you approve the sample and the price, we tint the plaster in Birmingham and agree the block of days. Each thin coat has to dry before the next, so rooms should be clear of other trades. Holiday homes left empty and cold over winter dry slowly, so heating on gently is wise. Narrow village lanes and seafront parking restrictions are worth mentioning early.
