Venetian plastering training in Middlesbrough is something people ask about often, so here is the plain answer. We teach at the Zavoré Academy in Birmingham, not in Teesside, which means Middlesbrough students make the trip south to take a course.
Whether you are a decorator wanting a higher value service, a plasterer looking at decorative finishes, a tradesperson thinking about going self employed in a specialist line, or a homeowner keen to learn, there is a course that fits.
Middlesbrough is a Victorian town at heart, shaped by the iron and steel boom of the nineteenth century, and its buildings give a plasterer plenty to work with.
Much of the town was laid out and built in a short, intense period of growth, which left rows of Victorian terraces and some grander streets, including leafy areas around Albert Park and Linthorpe. Period houses like these often keep high ceilings, chimney breasts and original proportions that look good with a hand finished wall. Lime based Marmorino suits older solid walls, and a feature wall in a through lounge is a simple way to add value.
The riverside around Middlehaven has seen regeneration, and the town has a university and an art museum, so newer apartments, offices and cultural buildings sit alongside the old streets. Modern flat walls take polished plaster beautifully, and commercial spaces such as bars, salons and reception areas can use limewash or metallic finishes to stand apart.
Beyond the town, places like Yarm, Great Ayton and Saltburn offer Georgian and Victorian homes and a steady flow of renovation work. A Teesside decorator who can offer Venetian plaster has an edge over painters who only offer paint, and a plasterer can build a specialist line of work alongside everyday jobs.
Begin with the Beginner Course if you are new, step up to Advanced for premium finishes, or book 1 to 1 if you already know the specific thing you want to master.
All three run from 10am to 5pm. If you want the full picture of the first course, the Beginner Course page lists exactly what is covered. For stencil work, vein work and high gloss, the Advanced Course is the one. A 1 to 1 session works well if your time is limited or your goals are specific. See the training page for dates and to register interest.
You can travel to Birmingham from Middlesbrough by train or by car. Birmingham is central in England, so students from the north east are not the only ones making a longer trip, and people come from across the UK and abroad.
With a course of 3 or 4 days, plan where you will be staying before you book. Zavoré holds a partner rate at a hotel near the Academy, available when you quote Zavoré. Pickup from a station or airport can be arranged with your booking, and the price depends on where you arrive.
When you get home you have finished panels for a portfolio, a Zavoré certificate, trade pricing on Zavoré materials and a helpline for life through the private course group. Advanced students get help to find, price and win a first paid decorative job.
For clients who want it done for them, Zavoré also has its own applicators, as shown on Venetian plastering in Middlesbrough. You can order materials from the shop, with tracked UK delivery.
If you are thinking of a career move, our guide to starting a decorative plastering career is a good next read.
