Breathable Marmorino for old stone walls, polished plaster for newer ones, tinted to your sample in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Lincoln for period houses below the cathedral, Victorian terraces downhill and modern apartments near the waterfront. We supply and install genuine Italian lime based Venetian plaster alongside Marmorino, tadelakt, microcement and other decorative finishes, and our own applicators come from our Birmingham base to lay them. You can start by ordering a sample board or emailing a few photos of the room to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Lincoln has a wide spread of building types for one city, so we always want to know what the walls are made of before we suggest a finish.
Lincoln divides naturally into uphill and downhill. At the top of the hill the cathedral and the castle sit inside the old city, and the streets around Bailgate and down Steep Hill hold some of the oldest surviving houses in England, including Norman stone houses such as the Jew’s House. Much of the historic city is built from the local limestone, with thick walls, deep window reveals and old lime plaster inside. Georgian and Victorian houses fill the streets around the Minster Yard and the uphill suburbs.
Downhill the character changes. The city grew fast in the Victorian era as an engineering centre, and streets of red brick terraces were built for the workers, many of them to the west and south of the centre. These houses have solid brick walls and are often a century into their plaster.
Around Brayford Pool, the university campus and the waterfront have brought student blocks and modern apartments, and the outer edges of the city keep growing with new estates. Those newer walls are usually plasterboard or blockwork, flatter than anything uphill but needing different preparation.
Send photos and rough sizes and we can usually tell you which finishes are realistic. Before we price an installation, we survey the walls in person, checking the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, how the room is used, and what needs protecting. Old stone walls in particular can hide damp or loose plaster, and if something needs fixing before we start, we will tell you plainly.
When you have signed off the sample and the price, we fix dates together. The plaster is tinted to your sample in Birmingham before it travels. Lincoln is a longer journey from our base, so the job is booked as a block of days, with the team staying on site to lay each coat in sequence.
Uphill streets are steep and narrow and parking near the cathedral is tight, so please tell us early about access, loading and any parking permits. Our Venetian plaster installation page explains the work in more detail, and the installation page lists every finish we lay.
For student lets and rental flats near the Brayford, a hard wearing finish that is easy to repair usually makes more sense than a high polish, and we will say so. Designers and architects can find specification support on our specify page. If you prefer to use your own decorator, we sell the materials tinted to your colour with tracked delivery. Further reading includes our guides to clay and lime plaster and tadelakt or microcement, and you can see every area we cover.
Yes. Our own applicators come from Birmingham, and the job is planned as a block of days so the team can stay and finish each coat in order.
Usually yes. Old limestone walls need to breathe, so a lime finish such as Marmorino or limewash is a better match than an acrylic coating, which forms a film.
Flat, modern walls suit a polished Venetian plaster or a concrete effect finish, once any plasterboard joints are reinforced and primed.
Yes, with tadelakt or microcement on a properly prepared and waterproofed wall. We do not put Venetian plaster inside a shower.
