Venetian plastering in the Highlands

Breathable lime plaster and limewash for Highland stone houses, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid by our applicators in a block of days.

Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in the Highlands, with authentic Italian lime based plaster installed by our own applicators, who set out from Birmingham. We also lay Marmorino, limewash, tadelakt, microcement and other decorative finishes. The easiest way to start is a sample board, or photos of your walls and your postcode sent to sales@zavore.co.uk.

The Highlands are a very long way from Birmingham, so every job is planned in a block of days. The applicators stay near the property, work through the coats in order and finish the job before heading south.

Houses and buildings across the Highlands

This is a huge, thinly settled area, and the buildings vary as much as the landscape. Inverness has Victorian stone villas and terraces along the River Ness, with newer estates spreading around it. Fort William, Aviemore and the other towns mix older stone buildings with homes built for tourism and outdoor life.

In the countryside there are stone farmhouses and crofts, often harled or whitewashed, as well as Victorian shooting lodges and large country houses. Alongside them are modern timber frame homes and holiday lets, built with plasterboard linings.

These buildings face wind, rain and cold. Old stone and harled walls hold moisture and need to breathe, and rooms in a seasonal property can stand cool for long spells. Both facts shape the finish we suggest, and how long we allow each coat to dry.

Finishes for Highland homes

  • Limewash for croft houses, farmhouses and stone cottages. It is a natural partner to lime walls and lets moisture pass through.
  • Clay plaster for a warm, earthy room in a renovated steading, where a natural and breathable surface fits the building.
  • Marmorino for lodges and larger houses with generous rooms, giving a calm sheen that suits stone and timber.
  • Microcement or tadelakt in bathrooms and wet rooms, because Venetian plaster is not for inside a shower.

Holiday lets take a lot of use, so we help you weigh a delicate polished finish against something tougher and easier to repair.

Planning a Highlands job

Many Highland properties are remote, so photographs come first. We ask about the walls, any damp, how the rooms are heated and how we reach the property. Then we survey before pricing, and tell you plainly if a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem sorting first.

When you sign off the sample and price, we agree a block of days that suits you and your other trades. Your plaster is tinted to the sample before it leaves Birmingham. We need to know about access roads, parking, whether the power and heating are on and where materials can be stored dry. See Venetian plaster installation for the full process, or every area we cover.

Ordering materials from us

If your builder or decorator is local, we can send tinted plaster, base coats and wax tracked across the UK. They can also train with us on a course in Birmingham. If you are wondering about exterior walls, our article asks whether Venetian plaster can be used outside.

Questions about Venetian plastering in the Highlands

Do you work in the Highlands?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham. Because the Highlands are so far away, each job is planned in a block of days and the team stays until the work is finished.

What suits an old stone croft house?

Limewash, clay plaster or Marmorino. These breathe, which suits damp prone stone and harled walls better than a coating that seals the surface.

Can you plaster a remote property?

Often, yes. Send photos, the postcode and a note on access, power and heating, and we will tell you what the job needs before we quote.

Can I buy Venetian plaster in the Highlands for a local decorator?

Yes. We tint the plaster to your approved colour and send it tracked, with the base coats and wax needed.

Call 07592 929191, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, or email sales@zavore.co.uk with photos and the postcode of the property. A sample board will help you choose a colour before we talk dates.
